Abhi, Sara, Vicki: Deep Learning Workshop Scholarship Recipients

We have another Deep Learning Workshop coming up in July (11th and 12th). As with all our recent workshops, we have a scholarship available. We are passionate about ensuring Deep Learning is used for the benefit of the community, and that is one of the key factors determining who will receive a scholarship for the July workshop.

Three of our recent scholarship recipients were Abhi, Sara, and Vicki. We are keen to support people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to make it to our workshop, ensuring that Deep Learning knowledge is accessible and is spread throughout Melbourne. We tell you a little about each of the recipients below:

Third year PhD student Sara joined our workshop in March. Her desire to not only learn deep learning techniques to apply to her own research, but to also pass on her knowledge to friends and colleagues really caught our attention. Her belief that we can benefit from Deep Learning to expand perspectives and problem solving capabilities was also aligned with our thoughts on deep learning. Sara has been heavily involved in organising “IEEE” and “Women in Tech” events, helping to inspire and assist women interested in engineering careers.

Abhi joined our Deep Learning Workshop in December. He is currently studying a Master’s of IT at the University of Melbourne and is involved in ResPlats, where he teaches researchers how to use Python to better manipulate and understand their data. He has also volunteered with Robogirls, helping to engage children in STEM activities using robotic kits.

Vicki was a recent Data Science graduate when she joined our workshop. An enthusiastic learner, she is also involved in the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Meetup. Since the workshop, she has been extending her knowledge in virtual environments, setting up projects with Tensorflow locally.

As you can see, our previous scholarship recipients have been a diverse bunch. The communities they impact are varied, and there is no one area we are looking for. We get so many interesting applications for the scholarship, and we would love to give a pass to the workshop to each applicant. We would like to encourage you to apply or pass it on to a friend who would not otherwise be able to attend the workshop, and who is interested in using the skills they learn to help those around them.

The next Deep Learning Workshop will be held in Melbourne on the 11th and 12th July. You can apply for the scholarship until June 18th here. Early bird tickets are available until 10th June here.
